I was born here in Washington, and, about a year later, complications resulting from what might be called a birth defect led to damage to my optic nerve, thus rendering me legally blind, though I had more eyesight in earlier life than I do now. My parents were divorced when I was about 4 or 5, and I continued to live with my now-late mother in a fairly-large flat located not too far from where I live now.
